Privacy Policy WhoIsThis
The short version WhoIsThis keeps everything on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no servers, and no analytics — the app never sends your contacts, notes, or any call information anywhere. iOS shows your saved labels on the call screen, and it does so entirely on your device.

Who this covers

This policy applies to the WhoIsThis iOS app (“the app”), published by Common Sense Apps (“we”, “us”). It explains what the app can access on your device and confirms that none of it is collected by us or shared with anyone.

Data we collect or transmit

None.

The app has no backend and makes no network requests to us. It contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and it does not create an account or profile. We cannot see your contacts, notes, calls, or how you use the app, because that information never leaves your device.

What the app stores on your device

Everything you add lives only in the app’s private storage on your iPhone:

How caller ID works — and what the app never sees

WhoIsThis uses Apple’s built-in Call Blocking & Identification feature (a CallKit Call Directory extension). Here is exactly what happens:

No number or call detail is ever uploaded, recorded remotely, or shared.

Permissions, and why the app asks

Caller ID (Call Blocking & Identification)
You enable WhoIsThis in Settings ▸ Phone ▸ Call Blocking & Identification. This lets iOS display your saved labels when a saved number calls. All matching happens on your device; no data leaves it.
Photos (optional)
Attach images you pick to a saved contact. The app only receives the specific images you choose from the system picker; it never scans your photo library.
Contacts — import picker only (optional)
If you import a number from your address book, the iOS picker returns only the one entry you tap. WhoIsThis does not request access to your Contacts, cannot read your address book on its own, and never writes to it.

WhoIsThis does not use your microphone or location, and it has no background tracking. iOS does not expose the phone’s call log to apps, so the app cannot and does not read it.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your information — there is nothing for us to share, because it stays on your device. Data only leaves the app when you personally act:

Storage, security & deletion

Your data is stored in the app’s private, sandboxed storage. To delete everything, remove the app from your iPhone (touch and hold the icon ▸ Remove App ▸ Delete App). Any backups you exported are separate files under your control.

Children’s privacy

The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone — it collects nothing at all.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices ever change, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will appear here before they take effect.
