WhoIsThis is a private phonebook that lives entirely on your iPhone. Save people with a category, notes, photos and an ID — kept separate from your Contacts — and iOS shows your own label on the call screen when they call.
Turn on caller ID
Caller ID is provided through Apple’s built-in feature, so you switch it on once in Settings:
- Open the app and add a category, then a contact or two.
- Go to Settings ▸ Phone ▸ Call Blocking & Identification.
- Turn on WhoIsThis. (In the app, the Settings tab has a shortcut that takes you straight there.)
That’s it — when a number you’ve saved calls, your label appears on the incoming-call screen.
Frequently asked questions
Why don’t unknown or spam numbers show a name?
WhoIsThis only labels the numbers you save. It is not a spam database and does not identify unknown callers — it shows your own notes for the people you’ve added.
I turned it on but a saved contact’s name doesn’t show.
Check these, in order:
- The contact is saved and pinned in the app (unpinned contacts are hidden from caller ID).
- WhoIsThis is switched on under Settings ▸ Phone ▸ Call Blocking & Identification.
- Open WhoIsThis once after editing — the app refreshes the caller-ID list automatically when you make changes.
- The saved number matches the number that’s calling (try saving it in full international format, e.g. +44…).
Can it show a contact’s photo on the call screen?
iOS shows a text label only on the call screen, so photos can’t appear there. When a contact has photos, the label ends with “Contact has images attached” so you know to open the app to see them.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere. WhoIsThis works completely offline — no account, no cloud, no analytics. Everything stays on your iPhone. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I back up or move my data?
In the app, open the Settings tab and choose Export backup. That creates a .zip file you control; you can restore it later or on another device.
How do I delete everything?
Touch and hold the app icon, then Remove App ▸ Delete App. That removes all saved contacts, notes and photos. Any backups you exported are separate files under your control.
